Ingredients
- 12 oz spaghetti
- 1 lb halal-certified lean ground beef
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 small yellow onion, diced
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 24 oz marinara sauce
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes, optional
- 1 large egg
- 1/3 cup Parmesan-style cheese with vegetarian or halal-certified enzymes
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella
- Fresh basil or parsley
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Cook spaghetti about 2 minutes less than al dente. Drain.
- Heat olive oil and cook onion for about 3 minutes.
- Add ground beef and cook for 6–8 minutes until browned and fully cooked.
- Drain excess grease.
- Add garlic and seasonings and cook for 30 seconds.
- Stir in marinara and simmer for 5 minutes.
- Whisk the egg with Parmesan-style cheese.
- Toss the warm spaghetti with the egg mixture.
- Layer half the spaghetti and half the meat sauce in the baking dish.
- Repeat with remaining spaghetti and sauce.
- Top evenly with mozzarella.
- Cover loosely with foil and bake for 20 minutes.
- Uncover and bake another 10–15 minutes.
- Rest for 10 minutes before serving.
- Garnish with basil or parsley.
Notes
Cook the spaghetti slightly under al dente because it continues cooking in the oven. Drain excess grease from the beef and use a thick marinara sauce to prevent a watery casserole.
